Historic Preservation

A large part of Towanda’s vibrancy comes from its history. The historic architecture of Towanda has been recognized nationally for its significance; the Towanda Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1992.

Historic Property Profiles

Towanda Civic Works is invested in helping property owners preserve the integrity of their historic homes. We believe this work begins with knowledge. Curious about the history of your property? Send us a message! Our team can help create a Historic Property Profile.

Case Study: Historic Property Profile for 108 Chestnut Street

Wondering what a Historic Property Profile might look like for your property? Here’s what our research has uncovered for one Towanda home:

  • A full list of previous owners

  • The original survey map of the property

  • Details on the architect who designed the house

  • Newspaper clippings narrowing down the construction timeline

  • Photographs of the house from the late 1890s, 1905, and 1950

  • ….and more!

Every house is different. Not all properties may have as much detail to uncover. But TCW is ready to help you find what’s out there!

Endless Mountains Heritage Region
